Walter "Bob" Mahaffey

Walter George Bob Mahaffey, 80, of Belle Plaine, Kansas, died Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Bob was born May 21, 1946 to Nyle and Ruth Stapp Mahaffey in Beaver, Oklahoma. He went to grade school at Sunset from 1st Grade thru 8th Grade, then attended high school in Beaver, Oklahoma and graduated in 1964 at the age of 17. Bob later attended one year of college in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

He was a cattle trader and order buyer for several large packing houses. Some are still in business and some are not. He was the last large order buyer in the Oklahoma Panhandle area. Bob retired due to failing health or he would still be there from sun up to sun down.

He is the father of Cherish (Ray) Stiffler, Bobbie Lee Patrick; grandfather to Austin Wyatt Brown, Andrew (Alexis) Friesen, Woodrow (Cheyeene) Patrick, and Lona Lane Patrick; great grandfather to Denver Alan Brown, Gleason Nyle, Harbor Banks, Loxie Joy Patrick, Wyhatte Friesen, Hunter Leroy Friesen, Melody Friesen and Hadley Friesen.

Bob is also survived by his brother Leroy (Dena) Mahaffey and their two daughters; ex-wife Stephanie Mahaffey; sister-in-law Regina Russell; brother-in-laws Charles Claire Findley and George Earl Findley.

He is preceded in death by his parents; nephew Jeffery Mahaffey; and grandsons Jonathan Ray Friesen and Claude Scott Stiffler.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 4 at the Clubhouse of J.P. Management Apartments, 415 N. Main, Belle Plaine, Ks. 67103.

Graveside and inurnment services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 11 at the Sophia Cemetery outside of Beaver, Oklahoma in Logan County.

Arrangements are by Affordable Cremations Plus, Wichita, Kansas.
